The magic of plant dyes
Danish language workshop.
Try your hand at Viking Age plant dyeing in the company of the dyer. We shall try dyeing wool with three different plants and play with overdyeing. This could for instance be woad (blue), madder (red), weld (yellow), heather (yellow), and with overdyeing we can create purple and green shades. Everyone takes home a colour sample.
We are also going to visit the dye garden and get to know the dye plants. With the recipes you receive, you can get started collecting plants and dyeing at home in your garden or kitchen.
We light the fire under the large copper pots and work outdoors in true Viking style - whatever the weather. Expect smoke from the fire and take the weather into account when choosing clothing and footwear. Feel free to bring along a packed lunch/snack, water bottle, pen and notebook.
