Viking Ripa

Ribe is the oldest town in Scandinavia! On this tour through the reconstructed Viking environments, you will learn more about the town's development from its founding around the year 700 and over the next 300 years

Have a Viking show you around Ripa

Join a guided walk through the Marketplace and Ripa Harbour from the years 710–750, representing the very earliest Ripa with its shopping street and workshops. Moored at the jetty are clinker-built boats used to transport goods along the river between the town and the Wadden Sea. In Ripa Town, year 825, you will get a sense of how the houses, gardens and street layout may have looked, and on the other side of the river you will spot the Ansgar Church from the year 860, a reconstruction of what the first Christian church in Ripa may have looked like. At the Hviding Farm, year 980, you can experience Viking Age farming and livestock including Icelandic horses, cattle, hens, sheep and pigs. Along the way, there are plenty of opportunities to ask questions.
