Step into a world of stories and activities that bring you closer to Viking life:
- History quest for children – seek your fortune in the Viking town of Ripa
- Thing assembly – get caught up in the action when the earl calls the townspeople to a meeting
- Coin making – make your own copy of the Ripa coin from 720 AD
- Falconry show – get up close as the birds of prey take to the air
- Warrior training – grab a shield and sword and join in
- Archery – draw the bow, take aim and hit the target
- Market entertainment – laugh at the tricks and antics of the jester
And of course, you must also explore the reconstructed houses and meet the working Vikings. Bring along all your questions!
The history quest
Imagine you have arrived in Ripa to settle down and seek your fortune. But before you can become Vikings and respected citizens of Ripa, you will need to complete a series of tasks and take part in different activities.
In Ripa, you must prove that you are skilled and can be trusted. You will need to learn a craft and make friends among the townspeople. Will you end up as a woodworker, shoemaker or boatbuilder? To become a good warrior, for example, you must first pass tests of strength. And if you want to become a respected merchant, you will need to show that you can buy and sell goods at a profit.
The Vikings of Ripa are ready to welcome you and help you on your way. All you need is a sense of adventure and a willingness to throw yourself into Viking life. Bring your brother, sister, cousin or a good friend and share the experience with them. When you arrive, we will explain what you need to do.
Age group: About 6–13 years, accompanied by parents or grandparents. We particularly recommend that younger children take part with an older sibling or an adult. You will make your own way around Ripa, completing tasks, meeting Vikings and gathering information along the way.
Duration: Allow at least one hour for the History Quest. We recommend starting no later than 13:00 (1 pm). When you are ready, you can complete the quest and have your efforts assessed. You can also choose to stop at any time.
Price: The History Quest is FREE with your admission ticket to Ribe VikingeCenter. The activity card (DKK 70) gives you even more options along the way, but you can take part in the History Quest without one.
