The meeting of religions
Learn more about the introduction of the new faith that, in the mid 800s, spread north through southern Jutland, and how the thriving market town of Ripa (today Ribe) became the place where the first church in what is now Denmark was built.
This week you can, among other things, experience a historical ceremony in Ansgar Kirche Anno 860 and meet the völva, who represents the old customs.
The programme for the week will follow.
The first Christians in Ribe
The archaeologists have excavated a large number of 9th century Christian graves at Ribe Cathedral. Research later established that the dead had been brought up locally, and the extent of the burial site testifies that there was a large Christian congregation in and around Ribe at least 100 years before Denmark was declared Christian by King Harold Bluetooth.
