The völva
Who is the völva? In the Norse religion she is a spiritual leader, a kind of shaman. She is the wise woman who is in contact with the Norse gods. She knows the power of herbs, can go into trance, see into people and into the future, heal, read runes, and she leads the ceremonies at the sacrificial site.
The völva holds a high status in Viking Age society, there is respect for her abilities, and she is regarded as an important link to the spirit world.
About the series
